I am heartbroken to post that Papa passed away last week. Thankfully he went in his sleep and didn't seem to have suffered. It is hard to comprehend that a person who lived life so completely can be gone. His accomplishments are numerous and can be read about in his Fort Worth Star Telegram Obituary and Helicopter Association International story. While I am proud of his accomplishments, they are not the part of him that I will miss. For me Papa was a person to have a late night bowl of ice cream or cookie - or both - with. He could whistle like a song bird and loved to listen to classical music. I remember Papa's quick wit and will miss his lively banter. He is one of the few people that I know who could truly pull of wearing a silly hat.
Anyone who spent time at the house on Merrill Street will recall the sliding glass door going to the backyard. Papa kept it so spotlessly clean that birds and people were constantly flying / walking into it. I know that I left my share of nose prints on it.
No one can give a bear hug like Papa. I remember snuggling into his lap while he sat in his chair and we would watch TV or listen to music. I love the way he was the only one who ever called me 'Chrissy'. He has always held a special place in my heart and will be greatly missed.
